I Am George Washington

This book talks about President George Washington. He was a brave child and wasn’t scared of anything. He helped win the Revolutionary War and became the country’s first president. This adorable book was inspired by PBS Kids TV show Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. Your child will become inspired after reading it. The illustrations in this book are comic-book style and the colors are bold. The text fits well with the illustrations. Other genres in this book are history and biography. 


Motivational Activities:

A social studies lesson can be given from this book. 

Have the children draw a picture of George Washington and summarize the book.

The author of this book is Brad Meltzer. He was born on April 1, 1970. Meltzer is an American novelist, non-fiction writer, TV show creator, and comic book author. He has also written superhero fiction books for DC Comics and short biographies for young readers (Wikipedia, n.d).

He's Got the Whole World in His Hands By: Kadir Nelson.  This book is about a boy who talks about someone having everything in His Hands. Nature is in His hands. It relates to a song from years back. The pictures are colorful and beautiful. Some of the genres for this book would be Christian, poetry, fiction, and African American. The texts fit the genre in this book because the author talks about God having the whole world in His hands. The illustrations support the texts by the colors that were used. The pictures will have children engaged. Broken Crayons Still Color By: Toni Collier This book is super cute! It is a social-emotional book. The girl's crayons break when she is coloring because she is upset. Then she discovers that her crayons have personalities and feelings, too. The crayons then start showing her how to deal with her feelings. It shows children to color when they are having a bad day. It is a great book to talk about feelings. The illustrations and texts go well with this book. The colors are very bold and pretty. It is a multicultural book, and the pictures show that. Other genres in this book are picture books and cultural.  Motivational Activities: Children can talk about feelings and have a color represent each feeling.
